A Shadow/Bevels Style Freebie Set.

Shadow styles will help you add a realistic touch to your pages.
Something Designs by ScrapShana has thought about is a "tip sheet" so you'll see that in there too.

Shana says she has only used them with CS4, but they will surely work with earlier versions of photoshop. However, elements users, she wasn't sure about. I can tell you, I installed them on my PSE6 and it worked. yay!

Remember, these are just a good starting point setting.
Look at your old paper layouts, take a glance at the clutter right in front of you. Look at the natural shadows they have.
Fiddle with them~have fun!

Trick Or Treat!

I’m so sad that my kids are out of the trick or treating phase. Makes this holiday so boring! We live out in the country, so not even expecting any trick or treaters. Phooey!

BUT, next year, I’ll have a sweet little princess!

My daughter is now almost 36 weeks along, and according to our last visit, Lexi could be delivered within the next week or two, or three. LOL

We’re all very excited!

The Flu Stinks

I knew it would happen sooner or later. Working with first graders is much like working in a doctor’s office. Only without the pay or lunch break. Germs are everywhere, and parents think nothing about sending their sick child to school.

So, it was inevitable that I get the flu. The swine flu, no less.

I thought it was just a nasty cold and left work Tuesday to go get a shot and help knock it out maybe. I had not been running any fever, and didn’t have one when I got to the doctor’s office. However, the nurse wanted to do a flu swab anyway. 15 minutes later, the doctor tells me I have H1N1. Huh? No fever? That’s odd. He gets paid the big bucks, so I’m not going to argue with him.

I’m feeling much better today, just a nasty sinus headache, but the aches are not near as bad. I’ll be back at work tomorrow I’m sure.

In the meantime, I’ve posted a couple more freebies in the Digiscrapaganza gallery and uploaded my layout of Lexi. It’s the first one I’ve done of her. Una is 32 weeks along now, so just a little over 7 weeks to go! Everything is looking great, and she’s gained 23 pounds so far. All baby. She’s not nervous about the birth, just excited about getting to hold her little girl.

Well, unfortunately 4shared was hacked this past weekend, so I have removed all of my freebies from there. The only freebies available at the moment are the template and blog train mini. From now on, freebies will be hosted on a private server.

On a brighter note, I was able to scrap this past weekend! The first layout I've been able to do since the 2nd of August. I used the free template from Biographitti for Daydream Designworks GO Template Challenge. Man, did it feel good to scrap! LOL
Here's the layout I made:

It's a picture of my daughter and her "baby" recess. I snapped it the other day while they were sitting in the living room with me. The way Recees was looking at her was the inspiration for the layout. Journaling reads:
Will you still love me?
The way Recees was looking at you, it seemed as if that's what he was saying. I wonder how he will react once Lexi arrives. He has been your "baby" for so many years.
I used my new kit, Earth Angel for this layout.

Last month was CRAZY for me. With school starting, running Una to the doctor and trying to keep up with my designing, I barely found time to do much else. Hopefully things will calm down some now and I can get back into the swing of things.

Each team had to incorporate a musical theme in to their layouts. The theme had to be the same for all 5 layouts.

I've learned that when things get you down, the best thing you can do is put on a funny movie, listen to your favorite music and Just Be Happy. Enjoy the life you are given. Everyday. There are many people out there who have it so much worse.
Thank you to each and every one of the beautiful people that replied to my post about my daughter. It really helped me to read your stories and words of support. Thank you.

Dawg Days of Summer!

We've been enjoying a cold front the last couple of days, but the forecast is for it to get back to HOT and HUMID. It's what we in the south call the "Dawg Days of Summer". Yes, in the south, it's spelled DAWG. LOL You know when they get here because the dogs just lie around in the shade. My little dogs have to be made to go outside to do their business. Then, it's back inside under the air conditioner! I don't blame them.
So, I've cooled off prices at all of my stores!

Loving our Children, Despite Their Mistakes

For about a month, I've kept to myself about some big news in our family. However, it's time I open up to the world.
My 15 year old daughter recently came to me with the news that she is pregnant. Yes, you read right, 15 years old. She's not a wild child, by any means. Nor have I let her loose without parental supervision. If anything, I've been accused of not letting them out enough. However, she let her 18 year old bf talk her into something she wasn't quite ready for. 18? Yes. I dated older guys when I was her age. When I married her dad, I was only 17 and he was 2 weeks shy of 23.
However, this news still shocked me. I cried, and got sick to my stomach at the news. What had she done? Hadn't I talked to her about all the hardships teenage moms have to face? Hadn't she learned from my mistake? Had she not listened to a word I had said? Obviously not.
But, what could I do? I still love her with all of my heart. She's still my baby girl. Still my angel. And, this new baby will be loved and welcomed with open arms.
God doesn't make mistakes. We can't question his plans. We just accept what He gives us and move on. There was never any question about her keeping the baby, or continuing the pregnancy. I am a very firm believer that all children deserve the right to live.
She's perfectly fine with the idea of becoming a mom, and was being very precautious even before she told me. For example, watching what kind of medicines she took for her headaches, reading up on what kind of foods she can and should eat. Which ones to avoid. She cut out sugar and caffeine also. All before she even had seen a doctor or told me about the pregnancy. That I was proud of. Why couldn't she have been so responsible BEFORE?
So, now the world knows I'm about to become a memaw. A MeMaw!!
The baby is due to be born on November 30th, which is 1 day after I turn 37. The midwife seems to think it will be much sooner, because of her size. I just hope it's not much sooner.
I have a sonogram to scan and get uploaded. Will do that soon.
So, those of you who are so inclined, please add my baby girl to your prayer list. Pray that she continues to have a healthy pregnancy, and that this baby is healthy and full term. I know that with God's help, we'll make it through this.

Whew! Lots to tell you!
First of all, I have 2 new stores! I'm now selling at Natural Designs in Scrapbooking and the soon to open Digi Scraps Drive In! They are both super nice stores and I'm just tickled to death to be a part of their design teams.

I made it to Round 3 in DSA's SYTYCD Contest!!! I'm so happy! I honestly didn't think I would make it after seeing all the great kits that were submitted. This is truly a surprise. And a good week to get one. With only a week left of school (2 1/2 days with kids and 2 1/2 days without), my stress level is peaked.

Recently, my youngest received an award at her 7th grade awards program. I knew she was getting it, but she didn't. It was for having the highest average in her advanced math class. She's a math whiz like I once was. LOL
The program was held in the HS gym, and the lighting was HORRIBLE. Everyone was complaining about it...and the heat! They only had one fan on because of the noise they make, and the parents were all seated in the upper level bleachers, where the heat rises to! I did what I could with photo shop, but they still need some color correcting.

She was also recognized for having been on the Honor Roll for the year. She would have been on Special Honor Roll, but her 3rd nine weeks average in science prevented that. That's what she gets for goofing off!

Being so gifted in Math, you'd think she wanted to do something like be an engineer when she grew up...but NOOOOOO she wants to be a fashion designer!!!!!! OMG

I guess she'd have to be able to measure things, right?

Ever get snap happy? Take lots of photos of just everyday things? No special event or day, but just because? I do. ALL the time!!
Well, our second round at DSA's SYTYCD contest was to come up with an everyday kit that could be used with project 365 layouts.
I don't do project 365. I would really love to, but my attention span doesn't allow for it. LOL
So, I came up with this kit called, Snap Happy:

I did this two pager with photos from Jai's second pass home this weekend. Working on the rest today. ;)

We had a great weekend with Jai. He brought home a friend from YCP named Larry, who we all loved right away -- even the dogs and cats loved him! That's a plus in my book. ;)

It was easier saying goodbye this time knowing that in 4 short weeks, he'll graduate and come home for good. Then he'll either: a) join the military, b) get a job and a place of his own or c) start classes at the local Community College.

I'm very, very proud of Jai for making the progress he has made, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and academically.

Summer Sherbet Freebie!

Before I get to the freebie, I wanted to show you some pictures of Mitzi, my little Yorkie Poo. She's five months old now and I decided it was high time she got a hair cut. Although she did look cute with her floppy ears (one would stand up one day, the other the next, both the next, then neither the next), and overgrown bangs, her hair was getting matted and I couldn't get them out no matter how much I brushed, combed, conditioned. It was driving me nuts.
So, off to PetCo. we go. The groomer was really sweet and knowledgeable. I had researched online some of the Yorkie cuts (even though Mitzi is part poodle, her Yorkie is more dominant). She did a fabulous job. I couldn't believe the change in Mitzi. She didn't even look like a puppy anymore!

Wow, what a week! My trusty laptop has been going downhill for some months now, and this week I couldn't take it any longer. I took it in to the shop and found out it was eat up with viruses. Thank GOD, it wasn't worst case scenario, but it was close.
He had to keep it for 3 days, but it is now faster and better than ever!
While it was in the shop, I was unable to do much online. Our family desktop was a dinosaur, so I ended up getting a new CPU Friday just so I could get online and keep up with my digi business!
Now, I'm back and have a lot of catching up to do!

What a busy week!
I'm so excited to announce that Digiscrapaganza now has its own forum and gallery! Come on over and introduce yourself. Get to know the designers and creative team, and make new friends who share your love of scrapping!
PLUS, our gallery is also open to all linking. We'd love to see your layouts, whether or not you use our store products.

So, after a week of working on the new site overhaul and additions, we had a big day Saturday with Jai at YCP's Family Picnic. We haven't seen Jai in 6 weeks, so we were quite excited about the event.
After getting there around 8:30 that morning, we set up our picnic supplies and headed over to the other side of the lake where the drill competition was going to take place. Jai's platoon is "Charlie" so he would be third to compete. The first two platoons were really good, and our excitement to see Jai was growing by leaps and bounds. Then his platoon marched out.

While I took pictures, my youngest daughter filmed it on my cell phone. We all tried to figure out which one was Jai. Even though only 10 feet away from them at times, we still couldn't pick him out. They all looked so similar! We were quite disturbed at not being able to pick out our own child/brother/grandson! We were so busy with that, that we didn't pay much attention to their routine.
Afterwards, the platoons went behind the crowd to rest in the grass while the other platoons performed. My mom walked behind the vehicles behind us and was approached by a young cadet. At first she didn't recognize him, but then realized it was Jai! We all turned around when we heard her call his name and ran to him with open arms. We told him how we couldn't figure out which one he was in the platoon. He said he was in the middle. Then I noticed he was wearing his tennis shoes. I asked where his boots were. He smiled in that way he always does when he's been caught doing something sneaky. Turns out he wasn't marching with his platoon after all! He had been to the nurse Friday and was ordered to not wear boots or march. He has developed a plantar's wart on the bottom of his foot and goes to get it cut off Monday.

I was so relieved! I coldn't pick him out because he wasn't in there! Whew!
Well, his buddies hollered for him to come back to the group, so he left and we finished watching the rest of the platoons perform. The girl platoon was last. They were all so good, it would be a tough decision for the judges.
Then all the platoons came marching back. Jai was with a group of 4 or 5 other boys, all with white nurses bands on their wrists. They went and stood with their respective platoons and waited for the judges to announce the winners. Jai's platoon took second place. The girl's "Golf" platoon took first. It was ittersweet knowing he hadn't actually marched with them.

Jai introduced us to one of his buddies from the platoon. Jai and the girls wanted to stay around and talk to some of the boys there, so my mom, Thomas and I walked back to the picnic site.
It was cloudy, and rain was forecasted for the day. We were hoping it would hold off, but brought umbrellas just in case. Thankfully, it held off. The clouds filtered the sun, and there was as nice breeze blowing. It was a perfect day.

The hard part was saying goodbye at 2:00. The seargants, began calling for the cadets to load the bus, and we hugged him goodbye. I tried, but couldn't hold back my tears this time. You'd think it would get easier instead of harder to say goodbye. It doesn't.

I watched him walk up the hill, I noticed his pants sagging in the back (a big pet peeve of mine) so hollered at him to pull them up. Some things never change! LOL

It will be May 8th before we see him again. His second weekend pass home. Then he will graduate on June 13th and come home for good. It feels like forever though.

April's Template Challenge at SD

I finally got the template challenge up last night at Scrapdish. I need a personal assistant to help me keep track of everything. I thought that by getting a spirl bound calendar notebook I could keep everything together in one place and stay on track. Well, that lasted all of a month. Then, the calendar ended up at the bottom of some pile of unopened mail, sales catalogs and school paperwork. So much for that.
I am determined to find a way to organize my time so that I can get everything in though!
For now, I wanted to share some more pictures with you.
The other day, I was sitting in the living room with my youngest daughter. She was texting on her phone, I was on the laptop and the TV was on with neither of us paying attention. Then I shut the laptop, and she shut her phone. She sat forward and when I looked over at her, I was overcome with how beautiful and grown-up she is. "DON'T MOVE!" I ordered. I reached and grabbed my camera and took this shot. It is currently my all time favorite of her. No posing, no pretending. Just Teela being Teela. I love it!

Then there is this one. I snapped it while we were at the reservoir last week. Just look at that expression. Mischievious doesn't even describe it! LOL

To be fair, I have to post some of my oldest daughter as well. Even though she claims she hates me taking her picture, and makes it as hard as possible to get one of her, she gets upset when all she sees are pictures of Teela.
I've found a way to get pictures of her now though. I use the action mode and just start shooting. Out of 30 shots, I usually can get 1 or 2 good ones. Here are two from the past week:

Lastly, here's my sweet Mitzi. Her fur is changing colors around her muzzle and it is getting longer all over. Right now she has "bad hair" days almost daily. It's in between that stage of short enough to stay out of her eyes and long enough to clip back with a barrette. She's still gorgeous in my eyes though. Not quite a pound in weight, she thinks she owns the world. ;)

At least these two will pose for pictures without complaining!

Since I used to paper scrap, I have a lot of pages done in that style. Now that I'm digi scrapping, I didn't want to "mix" the two together. I was trying to finish the books I had started, but never quite did. Honestly, I haven't TOUCHED my paper supplies since the day I started digi! Except for the few embellies I used while doing hybrid projects.

Have any of you had that issue? Did you just go ahead and mix the two? Or start over and do them all as digi? I'm so anal it's pitiful. LOL

First Walk

I was told today I really needed a man in my life. The dog is getting too spoiled. LMBO Well, I really don't have time to date and all that. And besides, you can train a puppy a lot easier than you can a man. ;)
This past weekend we took Mitzi on her first walk on a leash. I don't use collars, only a harness. She's so tiny, she kept pulling her front legs out of the harness, but otherwise, she did really well.

On our way back down the path towards the car, we met a family with their Golden Retreiver. When Mitzi saw that big dog she started to bark. She sounds so cute when she barks! It gave us all a good laugh. The Golden Retreiver looked at her as if he couldn't figure out if the barking was coming from her or somewhere else. It was priceless. She thought she was tough though. Oh, here's a few pics of my youngest daughter from that day as well. Guess I should post some of my human children huh? LOL ;)

My oldest daughter was determined I wasn't going to get any pictures of her...I was determined that I was! Guess who won? Hehe :P

This last one is of a blooming Dogwood tree in the woods. Perhaps my favorite part of spring is seeing these gorgeous trees. There's nothing like spring in the south. ;)
